Who We Are

 

Endemol South Africa was established in 1996 as a result of a merger between local producers, Toron, IFC and Dapple Films, and was then wholly owned by Endemol International. In 1999, KMMR- a black empowerment company bought 33 % of Endemol SA holdings.

Since its inception, Endemol South Africa has firmly entrenched itself as South Africa’s premier producer of television content with a prestigious product list including the award winning daily drama Isidingo (SABC 3), smash hit Big Brother, Big Brother Africa (MNet),  Survivor, Deal or No Deal (MNet); Forgive and Forget, Fear Factor and The Kids Are All Right (SABC 1).  Endemol South Africa also produced past TV hits such as SABC1’s flagship show All You Need Is Love, talk-show Mojo (SABC 1) - a co-production with Universal Whisper, comedy series Mzee wa Two Six, a co-production with a well-known actor, Kenneth Nkosi, a local version of the British smash hit Ready Steady Cook (SABC 2), prime-time police drama series Snitch for M-Net; daytime interactive TV format PlayTV for SABC3 and live AIDS/HIV related charity event Dance4Life for SABC2.

As one of the top independent television and digital content producers in the country, Endemol South Africa continues to pave the way for content producers both in South Africa and across the African continent.

In 2005 Endemol South Africa took a bold step to move across borders to establish its presence in the western part of Africa, Nigeria. Since it’s inception in May 2005, Endemol Nigeria has produced a 26-part drama series, Doctor’s Quarters for MNET Nigeria; a local version of South Africa’s most popular daytime interactive show, PlayTV, for Silverbird; a reality movie programme called Amstel Box Office, for NTA; and the world's most popular reality television show, Big Brother Nigeria.  Endemol Nigeria have also produced Advance Warning for MTV Base, MTN Project Fame as well as Let's Dance for MNet.

In 2006 the company took further steps in establishing its African presence when it opened East African offices in Nairobi. Since its inception, Endemol East Africa has produced the reality talent search Tusker Project Fame as a Pan East-African series and have just completed work on the highly successful fourth season.
